Most important, we had grand baby #9 on December 12th.

A beautiful little boy.

4 lbs. 8 oz.

17 inches long.

I haven't even got to see him in person yet! He came early and I had surgery so......

Mini Butterfinger Cheesecakes

A lot of you have probably already heard about these little gems. I had not.

They are DELISH!!!!!!

I made them as one of our Halloween Party desserts and they went over big time.

The few that were left ( I doubled the batch) I had to send to the office with Papa because I did not want them here for me to eat!!

Here goes:

1 Cup vanilla wafers

2 TBS. sugar

2 TBS. butter

1/8 t. salt

8 oz. softened cream cheese

1/4 Cup creamy peanut butter

1/2 Cup sugar

2 TBS. heavy cream

1 egg

1/8 t. salt

4 fun size Butterfinger candy bars, crushed

1 Cup Chocolate chips ( I used milk choc. chips)

2 - 3 TBS. heavy cream

2 Fun size Butterfinger candy bars crushed

Pre heat the oven to 350 degrees

In a food processor, crush the vanilla wafers. Then in a medium size bowl add crushed wafers,

sugar, butter and 1/8 t. salt. Mix to combine.

Spoon mixture into bottoms of mini muffin pans. Press crumbs so they come up the sides of the muffin pan a little bit.

Bake for 10 minutes....OR NOT.

I was in such a hurry when I made these I forgot the baking for 10 minutes step. I just went on to the next step, filled them with the cream cheese mixture and baked it all together.

Of course I was horrified. My grandson watched me as I had a little break down. I might have said "shit"

After all these were for a party and I wanted them to turn out spectacular! Guess what? THEY DID.

So I am skipping the baking for 10 minutes every time.

Moving on....

With a mixer, beat cream cheese and peanut butter until smooth. Then add sugar, egg, cream and salt, mix until well combined. Slowly ( I used a wooden spoon for this part) stir in crushed Butterfingers.

To crush the candy bars I left them in the wrapper and lightly "hit and rolled" them with my rolling pin. I practiced first on the grand kids to make sure it would work.

Evenly pour mixture over the crusts.

Bake for 20 - 22 minutes until cheesecake is set.

Let cool for 1 or 2 hours. Then remove from the pan.

I let them cool 1 hr. because as stated above I was in a mad rush that day.

Melt choc chips in microwave in 30 second intervals until smooth.

When melting chocolate do it slowly , no rush here. Just remember low and slow until you get the consistency you want. (Which is smooth BTW)

Stir in cream until again, s m o o t h...

Oh, and glossy.

Spoon over the tops of cakes.

Then sprinkle with crushed Butterfingers.

So, So, good!

What a great way to use all the left over candy from Halloween.

I know, none of you have any left over candy. Who am I kidding.

Just go buy more.

One more thing if you do bake the crust for 10 minutes. Turn the oven down to 300 degrees before baking the cheesecakes.

Autumn Harvest Chili

If you can't tell that is Butternut Squash, stuffed with Chili.

(i know i need a good camera)

This is a recipe from Rachael Ray's Look + Cook Cook Book

one of my favorite cook book's btw

Here goes:

2 C. vegetable stock

1 large or 2 small dried ancho chile peppers, stems and seeds removed

(just remove them, I didn't and, well just do it)

2 small butternut squash, halved lengthwise, seeded

( same as with the chili's just remove the seeds, duh)

5 T. extra virgin olive oil, divided

salt and pepper

1/2 pound cremini mushrooms, quartered

1 onion, chopped

2 garlic cloves, finely chopped or grated

1 medium red bell pepper, seeded and chopped

2 small zucchini, cut into 1/2 inch dice

1 t. dried marjoram or oregano

(i used marjoram)

1 scant T. sweet smoked paprika

(sweet smoked paprika is delicious, it adds such deep smokey flavor to your recipe)

2 1/2 to 3 T. chili powder

1 10 oz. box frozen corn

1 14 oz. can black beans, drained

3 T. tomato paste

( i used the whole can, I can't stand to waste most of a can of tomato paste)

1 C. Negra Modelo or other beer of choice

1 healthy T. honey

2 C. shredded yellow cheddar cheese

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees

Place the stock and the ancho in a small pot over low heat. Steep to soften the chile. Place the butternut squash on a baking sheet, drizzle with about 2 T. olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Turn the cut side down and roast the squash in the oven until tender, about 45 minutes. Turn upright for the last 15 minutes to brown at the edges. Once the squash is roasted, remove it from the oven, then turn on the broiler.

While the squash is in the oven, place a dutch oven or large high sided skillet over medium high heat with the remaining 3 T. olive oil. Add the mushrooms and brown for 5 minutes, then add the onions, garlic, bell pepper, and zucchini, season with salt and pepper and cook until the veggies are tender, 8 to 10 minutes.

Puree the softened ancho chili pepper in a food processor or blender with the stock.

(i had stems, in my mixture and the seeds made it hotter. if you want it hotter go for it. if you want stems to choke on.... go for it.)

Add the spices, corn, black beans, and tomato paste to the vegetables in the dutch oven and cook until heated through, 1 to 2 minutes. Add the beer, stir, add the ancho mixture and the honey, then simmer over low heat until ready to serve.

Scoop the finished chili into and over the butternut squash halves ( i even dug a little of the squash out, to make the bowl bigger, then layered it in w/ the chili) the squash halves serving as bowls, and cover the mounded chili with cheese. Place the chili filled squash under the broiler to melt the cheese, 2 to 3 minutes, then serve.

This was absolutely delicious!!!!!! Great for fall and no meat.

Two Dot Continued.....

She loved being wrapped in a towel after her bath.

What a diva.

As you know Two Dot has passed. Yes, I am having a rough time.

I wanted to tell you the rest of the story about what happened with her because as a dog owner I think we must be responsible and make some very tough decisions when we need to.

Monday morning I had a man here setting some tile. Two Dot bit him.

I don't know what went on in her head.

I know it was not provoked.

I know it was very scary, for all concerned.

(even Two Dot, she sat and shook afterwards, of course that could have been because she saw my reaction to the whole thing)

This man had to go to the hospital and be stitched up. He is fine and feels terrible about the whole mess.

He is a dog lover too.

I was a wreck after this happened and frankly went in my room and prayed. Prayed that this man would be o.k., prayed that I could calm down. Prayed for answers as what I should do with Two Dot.

I got an immediate answer as what I should do with the dog.

I didn't like this particular answer.

I rationalized.

I could keep her in her kennel when people came over.

I wouldn't even let her outside w/o a leash.

It was a one time thing. There had been someone in our yard the night before and it really upset Two Dot, she was just still on high alert.

I walked out of the house to turn on the water for the garden when the bite happened and it made her nervous so she bit him, she was guarding our house.

Anyway, none of this sat right with me, so I prayed again.

Still didn't like the answer.

I asked Papa to pray.

Didn't like his answer. Neither did Papa.

When God tells you something though you better do it.

I couldn't say thank you God for listening and answering me but you know, I didn't like what you had to say so I am going to do things my way.

Animal control was involved in this whole situation also. When someone has to go to the hospital because of a dog bite they are forced to file a complaint. It's a good thing.

Normally the dog owner must have the dog quarantined for 10 days. However, since I was voluntarily putting her to sleep, and had all of her shot verifications they came and got her, put her to sleep and then took the blood sample from her that they needed to prove she did not make a rabies transfer.

( is that the longest sentence ever?)

Animal control was very kind to me. They actually expedited this for me because I told them that knowing I was going to euthanize her and them not releasing her for the euthanizing was agony.

It is law that you cannot put down your animal if they have bitten someone in the last 15 days.

Animal control has to release the animal in order to do so.

This was an awful thing.

It has been an awful week.

We miss her terribly.

Two Dot

Two Dot loved her beds. We have three of them and well, she loved them all.

Bear Lake this past Summer. Other than home this was her favorite place.

Our morning walks did her in for the rest of the day. lol

Nine years ago I decided I needed another dog, a canine companion to walk the hills with. A dog that would guard my home and watch over our family.

I researched Alapaha Blue Blood Bull dogs and decided this was the breed for me.

I found two funny little ladies in Ohio. These two bred Alapaha's. They were extremely diligent in keeping the breed clean, loved the breed to the point of strange eccentricity. At times I totally appreciated this weirdness in these funny ladies. When they told me Two Dot's lineage went back to the Mayflower I totally appreciated their eccentricity. (Yes, they could back up their info.)

When they wouldn't allow Two Dot on a plane to my home, I DID NOT appreciate their strange ways.

They felt she would not be safe on a plane and would not allow me to buy her from them if that was my mode of transport go get her from them to me.

I had to hire a dog Taxi. (Yes, there is such a thing.)

Two Dot and her sister Annie were transported from Ohio to Utah via dog taxi. I have to add that my two breeder friends thought it very amusing that Two Dot would now be a Mormon.

Annie went to live with my brother. Two Dot stayed with us.

They came in January. Papa did not like the timing element here because I was supposed to go with him to Las Vegas on business. (monkey business) Anyway...

I stayed home with the puppy and Papa resented her for years. ha ha ha That cracks me up. He actually said that to me once.

Two Dot was easy to train, except she had an urge to take off once in a while. Especially when it snowed. She loved to run and run and run in the snow. This made me furious, you know when she would take off, wandering the streets. She always would meander home when she had sniffed out the neighborhood and needed a nap.

The neighbors did not like her little jaunts and I can't say that I blame them, she looked like a tank. As the years went by she finally learned she better listen to me. It actually took a shock collar but, whatever works is my motto.

She loved to try and get my cat Goldie who died almost a year ago. Goldie would swipe her across the nose with her claws every time. Needless to say Two Dot always had a big swipe across her snout.

Two Dot did not like strangers but, if I would allow someone in my home and tell her to go lay on her bed and be quiet, that's what she would do.

Sometimes there would be a low growl going on for a minute or two then she would calm down.

The grand kids could pull her, sit on her, ride her.....etc. She loved them.

She loved to give big hugs and lots of wet (yucky) kisses. When my dad could still get out of the house she thoroughly enjoyed visiting with him.

I trusted her with my life.

Two Dot died this afternoon

I miss her terribly!!!!!

Back It UP Sister!

My computer crashed. Really crashed. The hard drive is gone, well now I have a new one. However,

like an idiot I had not backed up a LOT of stuff. Pictures mainly. They are forever gone. Nothing could be retrieved from the hard drive. It's my fault I know that but, I am very very very etc. sad. I am so mad at myself. I have been feeling a nagging about backing up our junk for a while now and yet I did nothing.

This stupid cartoon is the only picture I have in our computer.

Anyway if you need to back it up. BACK it UP!!!!

I am so upset I just can't even tell you.

Let's get off this subject.

I have been away on vacay. Lot's of family fun up at Bear Lake. Man, that thing is swampy this year.

The mosquito's are out of control too.

Our computer has been down.

ARGH! I can't stop thinking about it.

Well, once again I have fallen behind. I thought I would do a quick catch up.

Easter was the funnest ever.

We were all together.

We had a sleep over where hilarity in sued.

There was dancing.

Egg dying.

Card making.

Game playing.

Easter egg hunting and of course we went to church.

Here are niece and nephews, grand kids and my daughter Megan.

We have them line up oldest to youngest every year. Chloe should be in between Izzy (with the pink basket) and Zeke.

I have so many hilarious pictures of us dancing. Most of them are of me looking like a fool so therefore they are not posted.

The sleep out. This is where we put the children while we partied.

All you have to do is zip up the tent and then safety pin the zipper shut for extra security.

You know I actually had some girls do that at girls camp one year.

One of them got sick in the night, could not get out of the tent and, puked all over.

You don't know this but, I have been away from the computer for oh, forty five minutes.

Cleaning up dog shit.

Yes, I said shit.

Getting back to Easter....

We celebrated Henrie's birthday. Papa bought him a sleeping bag.......

However, Izzy took it home with her. Look at that face.

Papa took Henry to the store the next day and got a more boyish one.

Sometimes I just don't get Papa. He said he didn't notice it was a girls bag.

The box says. "Flowerkid" right on it with a display of the bright pink bag.

Papa loves to wrestle. Who wouldn't?

We celebrated Chloe's birthday. Papa kisses her hand.

He says "May I kiss your hand mademoiselle?"

She lifts her left hand. (because it is her more prevalent side to use.)

Papa, makes her work though and refuses to kiss her left hand.

He makes her try to lift her right hand. Which is very hard for her. (it's hard for her to lift her left hand)

She can barely move her right hand, but she does for her Papa.

That little girl inspires me every day. You can't feel too sorry for yourself when someone like her is in your life, and you see them fight for every little movement they make.

We went to San Diego. This was the view from our room.

I just had to throw this picture of Chloe in here because it makes me laugh.

Most of us went to Vegas. (Taylor's kids were home barfing so they couldn't make the trip.) We went to Hoover Dam.

I love this picture because Tonio is laying his head so cute against Papa, and Chloe is actually sitting on Izzy's shoulders.

All of us loved the Dam.

Tonio loved saying things like....

"Look at all these damn people here."

There is so much damn traffic."

"This bridge is damn high."

He had a million of em.

Really a million.

I was damn sick of hearing his lame jokes. (Not really)

Chloe loves watching Mickey Mouse Club House.

For one hour of the day she is glued to her shows.

(only Mickey Mouse)

Eyes glued she is intently watching every movement, listening to every squeaky little voice and song.

Peaceful in her relaxation of the afternoon.

School is over.

Her tummy is full.

OH, but life is even sweeter when Papa shows up home early from work.

Then she can share her cinematic joy with one of her favorite people in the world.

How much better can life get?

Look at her little face, smiling but still glued to Mickey.

Her little foot tilted up as she cuddles her Papa.

Shhh. This is the interesting part.

Fiona walking by can distract her from the T.V. but, not from Papa.

Chloe doesn't really fully appreciate Fiona yet.

She will. One day.

My birthday is on the 7th. My son Oby's is on the 11th.

Papa and I celebrate our anniversary on the 10th. April is a busy month.

When Oby was growing up he would tell people he was born the day after Papa and I got married.

The picture above is us laughing it up on my nana's couch. I think it was Christmas. Those pants I have on are pink corduroy.

As you can see we laughed a lot and still do.

I remember exactly what we were laughing at in this photo.

My dad was taking our engagement pictures. If you notice my right arm looks as if it is going into the swat position. Papa was talking a little dirty. I will spare you. I also was dying because my dad was right there.

He was on a ladder in the middle of a creek but, he STILL was right there.

We too are in the middle of the creek, standing on a huge icy rock. I'll have to post our engagement pic. one day.

Well this was our 30th wedding anniversary.

Four kids and eight grand kids later I still am crazy about that guy!

Well, I finally got my computer fixed.

We have a wonderful friend who flies by when he can and helps us out.

This is a MUST TRY recipe from Rachel Ray's "Look + Cook" Recipe Book

Everyone that tried it LOVED it. LOVED it.

I tweaked it a little to serve my purposes, so if you want the original recipe buy the book.

It is a great cook book.

I have only tried one recipe that I didn't really like. Which as you know makes me mad because than I won't blog it.

This is the peppers for the pepper salsa.

I think that was fun. Anyway.

Finished product. Delish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here goes:

4 TBS. Olive oil (extra virgin) Really, how can something be extra virgin? That's like when someone says

"I'll give it 110%"

1 lb. bacon, chopped (Mmmmmmmmm bacon)

1-2 lbs. ground chicken - I used turkey and only 1 lb. Papa likes things soupy.

We know it's all about Papa.

2 to 3 TBS. pureed chipotle in adobo - I used 3 it was perfect.

1 TBS. ground cumin

1 TBS. ground coriander

1 TBS. smoked paprika - Make sure it is SMOKED paprika. I got mine at Costco.

Who knew? I couldn't find it at the grocery store.

1 large yellow onion, chopped

3 - 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped or grated - I think I used a little more than that he he.

That remark is for my son in law Pete.

He thinks I am a garlic freak.

1 6oz. can tomato paste

4, 14oz. cans chicken stock

salt and pepper

Pepper Salsa:

1 yellow bell pepper, seeded and chopped

1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped

1 orange bell pepper, seeded and chopped

1 medium red onion

2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and chopped

4 shots of tequila

Then 4 shots more for the salsa

juice of 1 lime

Avocado Ranch Dressing:

1/4 cups chopped fresh cilantro leaves

1 avocado, pitted - If you didn't know it should be peeled and pitted you deserve what you get.

1/2 cup finely chopped fresh chives

juice of 1 lemon

1 cup buttermilk

Crushed tortilla chips, for garnish.

Place a large heavy bottomed pot over medium high heat with 2 TBS. of the olive oil. Add the bacon to the pan and brown, ( I cooked the bacon until it looked almost burnt. I did this because when you add the liquid later it softens up quite a bit.) about 3 to 4 minutes. Add the chicken or turkey to the pot and brown, 5 to 6 minutes, stirring occasionally to break up the lumps. Add the pureed chipotle, cumin, coriander, and smoked paprika, then stir for 1 minute. Add the onion and the garlic to the pot and cook until tender, 5 minutes more. Add the tomato past and chicken stock and some salt and pepper to the pot and bring the liquids up to a bubble. Reduce the heat to a simmer.

While chili is simmering, place a medium skillet over medium high heat withe the remaining 2 TBS. of olive oil. Add the bell peppers, red onion, and jalapeno to the skillet and cook until tender, 4 to 5 minutes. Remove the skillet from the heat and add the tequila. Return the skillet to the heat and flame the tequila. That's right just light that salsa on fire. Watch out for your eye brows. Burn off most of the alcohol.

I have to say I was worried about putting the tequila in the salsa. I didn't want it to taste like alcohol. However, it gave the peppers a mild very yummy flavor.

Add the lime juice, the cilantro, chives, lemon juice, and buttermilk. Process until smooth and then season with salt ad pepper. Serve up the chili with some of the tequila pepper salsa and avocado ranch dressing. Garnish with tortilla chips.

Chloe and Izzy are bff's. Born only four months apart they have been great pals from the get go. The thing that warms my heart when they get together is the patience, love and compassion Izzy shows towards her cousin. In return she receives huge smiles, giggles and pure joy from Chloe.

Izzy is the protective leader. She pushes Chloe to try new things. These pictures are just one example.

To say Chloe dislikes animals is an understatement!!!!! Something about them strikes a fear in her that she just cannot overcome.....YET.

With Izzy's example and daddy's coaxing we got her to pet Fiona.

Fiona is asleep but, hey we will take what we can get.

This moment in time is a little miracle.

Izzy is already completely in love with Fiona. Izzy and her mommy and daddy and brother took care of Fiona and Two Dot while Papa and I went to San Francisco.

Fiona didn't want me to go. Ha ha I found her like this while I was getting ready. I did go though, and I was a little worried about how it would effect Fiona but, she did great. Thanks to Jamie and Aisha. ( and Izzy and Tonio) I think having Two Dot with her helped also. Our trip was so much fun. More grand kids to see and more on that later.

I promise I won't keep boring you all with pictures of my dogs.

My kids from out of state want to see what I have gotten myself into.

She is a Great Dane Mastiff mix. A "Daniff."

My vet is very amused.

She loves to chew and chew and poo and chew and pee and chew.

Personally I thought Two Dot would be a good sibling or a mom figure. I am disappointed in her. REALLY!
She is the sweetest dog but, she doesn't really think Fiona is anything to write home about. For some reason as shown in yesterday's post Two Dot has a thing with the raw hide bones. Watch this sequence...

Look at that dinky bone. Two Dot has a giant one hidden under her bed. She is not about to let Fiona know the joy of raw hide.

I don't interfere too much because these two will work it out on their own but, I was tempted to call Two Dot the" B" word. I mean she is a girl dog.

Litte Fiona just went and grabbed her ball. She wants to be Two Dot's friend in the worst way.

Then when I saw this this afternoon I thought maybe there is hope. Except when Fiona tried to cuddle, she was blown right off the bed with a huge growl and bark. Hmpf. If you look at the picture you can see Two Dot's eyes are open. She is laying there like "Oh crap, what is happening to my life."

I knew what I was getting myself into when I brought Fiona home. This is not my first rodeo in the dog arena so to speak. In other words I am outside trying to get Fiona to pee, or inside cleaning up pee. Training and guidance will be at the forefront. I will let you know how it goes. Like Lisa Loo said I just didn't have enough going on so I had to throw a puppy in the mix. LOL

This is our newest addition to the family. Her name is Fiona.

Like any other baby she likes to eat, sleep, cry, poop and chew on your jeans.

To stop said chewing I went and bought a whole bunch of chew toys. Two Dot was being stingy with the raw hide bones however.

Here she is stretching a little. The pics don't do her justice, she is adorable. I will try and get some action shots. (they are usually a blur)

Anyone care to give a guess as to what her breed is?

I was looking for a Mastador (Lab Mastiff mix, that is your only hint)

BUT..... I found her instead. When I went to take a look at her she ran to me like it was our destiny. Let's see what you come up with.

Texas Road House is a great temptation. Mmmmmmmm, love the place. Even though at times it is a bit disconcerting when the employee's start yip-pin it up whilst getting ready to sing happy birthday to some poor slob. I know that is the only way to get a free piece of cake I am not a Moron. In fact every time I go in I tell them it's my birthday. I think they are starting to catch on. I will have to get some disguises. If you have not tried it yet, you better!!

I love Temptations cookware. Yes, that is the name of the cookware. Although it is spelled Temp-tations because you can take it from the freezer to the oven with no problemo. These ceramic cups, glasses, whatever you want to call them are the latest in the collection. I LOVE them. I don't like plastic cups because they always get a funny taste. The ceramic won't. Plus my water stayed nice and cold for quite awhile. Sure you have to be a little more careful with ceramic then with plastic but, I am not going to go running with these. Heck I am not going to go running with anything who am I trying to kid. Thought maybe you would like em too.

Well, that is my shpil for the day. Been helping a happy hoarder pack up to move. I don't have any brain cells left to chat any longer. I mean who needs, can't live without, will just die if they don't have 48 sets of dishes with matching platters, glasses, stem ware, silverware and, toilet paper.

One of my favorite things that I received for Christmas was the "Bennett 2010 CD my DIL made for all of us. Tara (said DIL) told me if I wanted one for 2011 I better post lots of pictures. That goes for Taylor, Megan and Aisha too! I hope you all read this. Henceforth, periodically there will be posts full of pictures for Tara to gather throughout the year.

Lemon Velvet Cream Pie

First Things first. Papa did great and all is well.

Although, I did think maybe we would find my wedding rings.

This pie is DIVINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found the recipe in November's issue of Better Home's and Garden's.

I made it for Thanksgiving and I ended up wishing I had made two.

It is truly worth your time!

You will need pie pastry for a single pie.

You also could use 1 rolled refrigerated unbaked pie crust. However, I don't know why you would want to ruin a wonderful pie like this with refrigerated crust. Just my opinion.

I feel if you are going to take the time, go all the way and make homemade crust.

Anyway....

Here goes:

Ingredients:

Pastry. (We have already established that.)

1 tsp. unflavored gelatin

2 TBS. cold water

6 egg yolks

1 - 1 1/2 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk (2 cups)

1/4 cup whipping cream ( I used heavy whip cream)

1/4 tsp. salt

3/4 cup lemon juice ( I use fresh lemon juice)

Whipped Cream

Thin lemon peel slivers

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Roll out pastry on a floured surface to circle about 12 inches in diameter. Transfer to a 9 inch pie tin without stretching. Trim pastry to 1/2 inch beyond edge of pie plate. Fold under extra pastry Crimp edge as desired. Prick bottom and sides of pastry with a fork. Place in freezer 10 minutes. Line pastry with foil fill with dried beans or pie weights. Place on a foil lined baking sheet; bake 30 minutes. Carefully remove foil and beans. Bake 15 minutes more. Cool on wire rack.

(If using rolled refrigerated crust, bake according to package directions. Which I think say to throw it in the garbage.)

2. In a small bowl soften gelatin in water 5 minutes. Heat in microwave for 14 seconds; set aside.

3. In large bowl combine egg yolks and sweetened condensed milk. With an electric mixer, beat on high speed for 2 to 3 minutes until well combined. Beat in gelatin, whipping cream and salt on low speed. Add lemon juice and beat on low speed for 30 seconds. Pour into prepared crust (pie will be full)

4. Bake 22 to 25 minutes or until center of pie looks set when gently shaken; cool on wire rack 1 hour. Cover loosely and refrigerate at least 2 hours.

5. Top with whipped cream and lemon peel slivers just before serving

Poor Papa or should I say Poo Poo.

He is spending the evening preparing for his colonoscopy in the morning.

He drank his laxatives and kept saying "nothing is happening, nothing is happening.

When he jumped to his feet and RAN to the john I assumed something was happening.

I was right.

He purchased a tube of A & D ointment to dab on his tushy after each happening.

I told him I thought Comet would work better but, he never listens to me.

Needless to say, tonight has been a real bummer.

Yet I say, Wait until......

TOMMOROW!

With all the A & D ointment he is using that tube will slide right in.

Red Velvet Brownies

These Brownies are DELISH!!!!

I know the picture is not that great but, believe me when I say they are yummy.

You can top this with white chocolate curls which make them look divine however, I was in a rush when I made these for a Christmas party so the curls were left for another day.

I also doubled the recipe and used a 9 X 13 X 2 inch cake pan. My thought is if you are going to make brownies why use an 8 or 9 inch pan. That just doesn't make a sufficient amount of brownie to go around.

Here goes:

This is the original recipe before I doubled it.

1 4 oz. bittersweet chocolate baking bar, chopped

3/4 cup butter

2 cups sugar

4 large eggs

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 ( 1 oz. ) bottle red liquid food coloring (Have fun finding this at the store during the Christmas Holiday or for Valentines Day! In other words buy some now.)

1 1/2 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1/8 tsp. salt

small batch cream cheese frosting

Garnish: white chocolate curls

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line bottom and sides of a 9 inch square pan with aluminum foil, allowing 2 to 3 inches to extend over sides; lightly grease foil. I didn't do this. I buttered the bottom and sides of the pan and left it at that. They turned out fine. (Remember I was in a rush.)

2. Microwave chocolate and butter in a large microwave - safe bowl at high 1 to 2 minutes or until melted and smooth, stirring at 30 second intervals. Whisk in sugar. Add eggs, 1 at a time, whisking just until blended after each addition. Gently stir in flour and next 4 ingredients. Pour mixture into prepared pan.

3. Bake at 350 degrees for 44 to 48 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out with a few moist crumbs. cool completely on a wire rack (about 2 hrs.)

4. Lift brownies from pan, using foil sides as handles, gently remove foil....

Or just leave them in your baking dish like I did.

Spread with Cream Cheese Frosting.

Small - Batch Cream Cheese Frosting

Remember I doubled this recipe.

1 (80z.) package cream cheese, softened

3 TBS. butter, softened

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

Beat cream cheese and butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, beating until blended. Stir in vanilla

ENJOY!

The month of December completely got away from me. Maybe it did for some of you also. It seemed to have a life of it's own. We had a big family vacation, family parties, wonderful kids coming to stay w/ us etc.
Life was so busy and still is that I came close to deciding it was time to hang up blogging. I don't know why I just couldn't bring myself to the computer. Then yesterday I was watching this video Tara made for us and for some reason it made me decide to wake up. I CAN'T stop blogging!!!! What was I thinking?!!!! Even if it is just for me and my own amusement I shall go on.

Chloe Gayle Songs of Love.wmv

My DIL Tara called me this morning to see if I had seen this on her facebook. I didn't even know about it.
The Songs of Love Foundation wrote this for her. To learn more about the Songs of Love Foundation go to TMI I am so excited about it. The song fits her perfectly and has little lyrics that are so special to me.
The last verse says Zippity Doo Dah. Papa has sung that song to her since she was born. He sings it to all the grandchildren but, when Chloe was a baby and all she did was cry, that song would calm her down. I can't wait for Papa to see this. He is at our local Turkey Toss giving out Turkeys. My daughter Megan and her family surprised me last night by showing up at my door for Thanksgiving. (Too bad I didn't expect them and there won't be enough food.)
Now this little song has warmed my heart. (I know I sound like a sap)

Turkey Trot or in my case Turkey Wobble

This was the scene in Syracuse Saturday morning. It was the Turkey Trot 5K race to raise money for Chloe's Sunshine Playground.

That is Chloe and daddy Oby in front there. Papa and I are still back in the building trying to register. I didn't know they would not take checks and even with Papa trying to use his powers of persuasion with statements such as "You mean even though we are Chloe's grandparents and OUR check is good, you won't take it." We were out of luck. We walk ran the race anyway.

Chloe was just happy to be there. Luckily the rain did not arrive until the race was over.

She giggled the whole way. I know this from her father since Papa and I were not able to get going until 5 minutes after the race had started. We were walking fast to try and at least keep up. I knew a few minutes into it that my bum knee which had been feeling pretty good lately was going to be a problem. I started to slowly jog here and there because it actually felt better than walking. I used to run 5 miles a day. What has happened to me?

Anyway, we crossed the finish line after a very quick 53 minutes. What a joke. Well, at least we finished and we were not last.

I know that is hard to believe.

I was thrilled to see so many people there. Tara my DIL has been working very hard to raise money for this playground.

The city of Syracuse has been going all out to help her.

I don't know when they will be able to build but, I know they will.

This is Chloe and me after the race. The wind did not help either one of our hairdo's out one little bit.

Now you can also see why my brother's call me Phil (my dad) when I have on no make-up. Actually I look more like Phil's mother, my grandma Taylor.

I feel like an old grandma since I have barely been able to walk since Saturday.

Maybe it's time to go back and get this knee checked again.

It was fun to be there anyway. The community that surrounds my son and his little family could not be any sweeter and supportive.

Spicy Tomato Soup With Avocado Relish

This soup is YUMMY!! Just the ticket on a cold winter day.

Whip up some Jiffy Rolls to go with it and you are set.

I found this recipe in "Down Home With The Neelys" Love their stuff.

As usual I tweaked it a little to fit my families taste buds. ( I should say my taste buds, I'm the cook I can do what I want.)

Here goes:

2 TBS. olive oil

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 celery stalks, finely chopped

2 carrots, peeled, finely chopped

3 garlic cloves, minced

1 - 2 teas. dried thyme

1/2 teas. dried crushed red pepper flakes

salt

Two 28 oz. cans peeled tomatoes with juice

(I used two of my quart bottles of tomatoes that I had bottled from my garden. Not braggin just sayin.)

6 cups chicken broth

2 bay leaves

2 TBS. chopped chipotle peppers in adobo sauce

1 to 2 teaspoons sherry-wine vinegar

Freshly ground black pepper

Avocado Relish:

WARNING: Let your husband know he is to only take 1 to 2 tablespoons and dolip it into his soup. He is not to take the bowl of relish and dump the whole thing in his soup leaving the rest of the group relishless.

1 large avocado, peeled, pitted, and diced

1/2 small red onion, finely choppe

1/2 seedless cucumber, peeled and chopped

1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves ( I left this out. I don't care for cilantro.)

1 serrano chile, seeded and finely chopped ( I also left this out as, I did not think the small children or my dad could handle it. I am glad I left it out because the soup is spicy enough.)

2 TBS. fresh lime juice

Heat the olive oil in a large, heavy pot over medium heat. Add the onion, celery, carrots, garlic, thyme, red pepper flakes, and a pinch of salt, and cook, sitrring, until the ingredients are fragrant and tender, about 5 minutes. Add the tomatoes, broth, and bay leaves, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, and simmer for 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, make the avodado relish. combine the avocado, red onion, cucumber, cilantro, serrano chile, lime juice, and a generous sprinkling of salt in a medium bowl. Taste for seasonings, and add more salt or lime as desired.

After the soup has simmered, discard the bay leaves and stir in the chipotle peppers and vinegar. Working in batches puree the soup in a blender or food processor and return it to the pot. Season the puree with additional salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste, and serve each portion garnished with a few tablespoons of the avocado relish. Those in my group that got no relish still liked the soup very much! What am I going to do with Papa?

Trying To Get It Together......I Don't Know If It's Working

Some of you know I recently have had a new addition to my family. My sweet little granddaughter Madison. I went and stayed with my daughter and her family for 3 weeks. It was great to love on these two little ones. (These are recent pics of her and her big brother. I didn't want you to think she was a 12 pounder. They came to visit me last weekend.)

Here she is with cousin Izzy.

Well, when I left to go to my daughters I knew my kitty cat Goldie was sick. A couple of months ago the vet put her on antibiotics and told me I could refill them when ever I needed to. She (the cat) had some really bad teeth and the vet didn't want to put her under anesthesia to take them out because Goldie (the cat) was 16 yrs. old and well she probably couldn't take the anesthesia. He said it would be like "Her teeth are fine but, she died during the surgery."

When I left I had given Papa instructions to give Goldie her antibiotics until they were gone and to give our dog her antibiotics until they were gone. The dog had just had a tumor removed from her neck. (I know pathetic) Anyway Papa fulfilled his duty. Although when I returned home my mom (you remember the crazy lady from next door) informed me that Papa had not finished giving Goldie her medicine so she took it upon herself to finish what Papa had started but, in his laziness did not complete. I thought that's weird because Papa promised me he had given Goldie ALL of her medicine. Mom then went to her fridge and retrieved the bottle of left over antibiotic. She informed me that Goldie had been given her morning dose but I needed to give her that evenings dosage. I took the bottle from mom looked at it and ......

it was MY prescription for .... here it comes..... Candida. Yes, Candida drops that I , me, Nana, take daily! I didn't take them w/ me on my trip because the bottle is glass, it has to stay refrigerated. It was too big of a hassle for the plane ride.

I INFORMED mother of her mistake, then promptly asked her if the dropper had been inserted in my cat's mouth at any time. She assured me it had not she had just been putting a drop full on the cat's food twice a day.

Well, even with antibiotics, candida drops,voodoo and what ever else my mom had thought up my cat was still very very ill.

I took her to the vet as soon as I could. He told me he had good news and bad news. The cat DID NOT have a yeast infection however, she did have bone cancer. (he really didn't say that about the yeast infection)

I had to put her down.

I don't know if I will get another kitty.

Maybe in the Spring I will feel different but, I don't think so.

First of all I just want to say thank you for all the congratulations you have sent to my family. You may get bored with me the next few days or so. I just have to send these out to pesky family members who want to see our new addition. Mainly Papa. I had to show everyone her dark hair. We either have baldy's or blondies so, this is new to us.

Can you believe my daughter allows this thing to be on her mantel. Well I keep hiding Brasilian Bob because well, it's funny. I was told today that I had to stop it because Bob is so dear to Nick (SIL) and it hurts his feelings. Bob reminds him of himself and his mission so I must leave him alone. ( a statue of a guy with his hand down his pants. i don't know what kind of mission HE went on)

This picture gives you an idea as to what I am dealing with. Actually this is very cute. Nick loves playing with his kids. He and Madi had a little round up last night. I won't be much of a good bloggy friend for a while I hope you will all forgive me. I know you will.

Whew, it has been a busy month. (August) I have been traveling, nothing extravagant but, that is for another post.

I also had house guests. The three stooges came for a visit from California.

Before I go on I must say YES, I know what month it is.

These three wanted to see.......

All of this...... So, I put it up. Zeke lives in Vegas and he can't come to see it. His mommy is ready to have grandchild number 8 so, they are stuck at home for now. Here ya go Zeke.

My Shoes Did What?

I love shoes!

Pretty , pretty shoes.

These are my newest shoes, put them with a pencil skirt and gorgeous. Well, I wore my gorgeous shoes to church on Sunday a week and a half ago. Not the first time I have worn them. The third time actually.

I noticed a not so comfortable feeling while dancing down the hallways, it wasn't bad.

Until I got home and took them off. Let's just say when I put my foot flat on the floor...YIKES, it was excruciating!

I told Papa that something was very wrong with my foot. I thought that maybe the screw in my foot from my bunion surgery had moved, broken, bent.. whatever. (Shhhhhh I don't want to hear you telling me I have no business wearing shoes like this after bunion surgery. SHHHHHHH I TELL YOU!!!)

Have you shut up?

I will go on then.

Monday morning I called my Podiatrist and they could not get me in until today. So I have been wearing flats of course for all this time because well, my foot hurt.

I had X-rays. I could see the screw. It's fine by the way.

The Dr. also could see my broken toe. Yes. My second toe is fractured.

Fractured from wearing my shoes. The Dr. said he sees this all the time.

According to him when wearing high heels your foot is in a jacked up position to start with....then with all that weight on your toes, all you have to do is turn your foot funny and SNAP!

No I don't have Osteoporosis.

This is my sexy new boot.

Notice my virgin Bloody Mary. Papa loves me. He knows how to make me happy. Virgin Bloody Mary and a See's run. Mmmmm Hmmmm.

Summer Time And The Living Is Easy

I look at all these beautiful little people and can't believe they are mine.

It's seems like only yesterday my own kids were little like this.

In one month we will have another one.

Are You Ready For A Good Time? Cheese Fries

As promised here is my recipe for Cheese Fries. The original came from Miss Paula Dean. Usually I don't change anything Miss Paula does but, on this one I tweaked.

My Family are cheese freaks. We had this with our B.B.Q.'d steak and salad last night and Mmmmm. Mmmmmmm. It is yummy.

Here Goes:

1 28 - 32 oz. package frozen shoestring French fries, thawed and divided. I like the 32 oz. size the best.

1 16 oz. container sour cream

1 10.5 oz. can cream of chicken soup

1 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened

2 1oz. packages ranch salad dressing and seasoning mix

1/2 cup chicken broth

1/2 teas. salt

1 8 oz. package shredded Cheddar cheese

1 8oz. package Mozzarella cheese

2 - 4 cups Cheddar, Monterrey jack mix shredded cheese.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease a 13x9x2 inch baking dish. Spread half of French fries to cover bottom of prepared dish. In a large bowl, combine sour cream, chicken soup, cream cheese, dressing mix, broth and salt.

Spread half of sour cream mixture over fries, top with the cheddar and mozzarella cheese.

Spread remaining fries evenly over cheese, top with remaining sour cream mixture, and then top that with the Cheddar, Monterrey jack cheese mixture. I load the top of the pan with as much cheese as I can possibly get on there with out it boiling over while it is baking. If you don't want that much cheese on top, just add less.

Cover, and bake for 1 hour. Uncover and bake for 10 more minutes.

I cut this into portions with a spatula and serve it that way. Easier than using a spoon. It is gooey delishisnous at it's best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm Too Sexy For My Shirt

This is my brother Matt. As you can see by this picture he is full of it. All of my brothers are.

Anyway..

We were helping our brother Chad move into their new house today. I don't know about you but, I have my standard gardening, painting, moving type outfits. So today I wore one of them. My shirt had a little hole in the arm pit. I know you are all shocked.

Well, after this was revealed I should have known better than to lay back on the lounge chair with my arm in the air.

No sooner had I done that then Matt who let's just say isn't the most athletic guy in town, was across the room, dug his fingers into my shirt and ripped it from a little hole in the arm pit to full on frontal nudity. (only I had on underwear)

My 12 year old nephew was so lucky to be there. Don't worry he's with the therapist right now.

Luckily no one else was there at the moment, except my other brother and, my mom and, sister in law.

My SIL offered to go get me one of her shirts. Let's see how do I explain her shape. Oh, hear are some words....

I said "No thanks, I would rather sit here naked and let your neighbor Raymond see me like this than stuffed into one of your shirts."

Who is Raymond? He is there old neighbor, originally from China. He told us we weren't very nice to each other.

What?

We were on our best behaviour because the neighbors were helping and crap like that. He hadn't even seen the shirt incident.

He also told me that if he had a family like ours helping him move it would have taken him a year.

I said "Up YOURS Raymond!" ( in my head)

Raymond was getting on my last nerve. However, I knew he would walk into the room and some how not appreciate my ripped open shirt with all my womanly beauty flapping about so....

I quickly found some painters tape and did the best I could. I didn't realize how talented I am. Best thing is the shirt was saved.

Raymond didn't even dare ask what was going on. I think he just thought I was being artistic. Plus, I wasn't going to tell my SIL Holly this but, sweet Raymond is who put the big hole in the wall in Max's bedroom today while setting up beds. HA, take that Raymond! ( By the way, who do you know from China named Raymond??!!?)

Where I Walk

There are several places where I love to go on walks.

Yesterday while on this particular walk I noticed bus loads of people (tourists) running around taking pictures.

Now, I know this is a beautiful place to walk. I always think that to myself or tell my dog. She agrees by the way.

Anyway I thought I am going to post some pic's of this. We all have beautiful places around us but, there is no way we are going to be able to go see all of these wonderful area's. So, let's take pictures and share.

What Is Happening?

First of all, did any of you hear about the man who called the police because he suspected his mother of cleaning the bathroom with his toothbrush?

I say what's wrong with that?

Remember Papa's party the other night.

How in the world do you think I got our patio so clean?

If the stupid thing wouldn't have broken, Papa would have never known the difference. I guess I scrubbed a little to vigorously.

I swear something has happened to that man since he came home from Mexico. I thought Mexico was supposed to make men macho.

This is what I got upon his return.

He either thinks it's siesta time or fiesta time. He can't make up his mind.

The other day I asked him to run to the store and get us some purified water. We drink purified water that we keep in gallon jugs. He went to the store and returned with TWO gallons of water.

I asked him "Why did you only get two gallons?"

He answered in all seriousness "I only have two hands!"

I must have looked at him like SERIOUSLY!?!!!!

He then asked why I was giving him a not so friendly look.

I said "Really? You only have two hands? That's the answer you are going with?"

(I said this because I usually get the water and it is usually at least four gallons plus a crap load of groceries to go with them.)

Then I continued...."HOW MANY HANDS DO I HAVE? That is the lamest thing I have ever heard."

He was offended.

A couple of days later he decided to go to the E.R. because he was positive he had MALARIA. I asked him if he had had a lot of trouble with mosquito's on the trip. He couldn't remember. We went on a Pioneer Trek one year where the mosquito's were so bad they carried a couple of the kids away. Seriously, we never saw them again. I think I might have seen one of them in Twilight. (Can mosquito's turn you into Vampire's?) You remember things like that! I'm thinking, who is this wimpy man?

My body had ached for two weeks and I thought gee, I must have a little something. Well, not poor Papa. Not only does he have but two hands, now Malaria? How does he make it through the days?

(He does not have Malaria. In case you were wondering.)

His party turned out nicely I might add. He B.B.Q'd chicken and made his world class baked beans. I made a cherry cobbler. I also wanted to make cheese fries but, he wouldn't let me. Said I had done enough. Well of course I had. I just knew that all of those dopey men would not bring any food. Even though Papa had assigned them things to bring. I was right!!! No other food. Oh excuse me. One of them brought rolls. There were like 15 guys here and, no food!! Oh well, Papa only has two hands. What can we expect?

I will be posting my recipe for Cheese Fries. Hopefully the real Papa will be back by then.

White Chicken Chili

I have a friend who has been dying for this recipe for a long long time. I was going to post it in the fall but, she won't leave me alone. She has been asking for it for about a year so I decided to get with it and post it.

I don't have my own original picture of the dish so, until I get one here is a picture of my brothers white chickens. (they are hiding, they know they are white and I am writing about white chicken Chili.) There's a Rooster in there too. He thinks he's quite the Cock of the walk with all of his lady friends there.

Now of course you don't need white Chicken's for this recipe. Any old chicken will do. Maybe even a Rooster.

Here goes:

1 1/4 lbs. boneless skinless chicken

2 (15 oz.) can great northern beans or navy beans

1 (15 oz.) can hominy or white corn

1 (1 1/4 oz. envelope taco seasoning

1 (4 1/2 oz.) can of chopped green chilies

1 (10 3/4 oz.) can condensed cream of chicken soup

1 (14 oz.) can chicken broth

1/2 cup sour cream

chopped green onion (optional)

Monterrey jack cheese (optional)

1. Place chicken in your slow cooker.

2. Top with beans and corn.

3. In a medium bowl, combine taco seasoning, chilies, condensed soup, and chicken broth. Pour over top of ingredients in the crock pot.

4 . Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hrs.

5. Before serving, stir gently to break up chicken, then stir in the sour cream.

6. Serve topped with green onions and jack cheese, if desired.

This is easy, easy, easy, my son in law is who actually found this recipe, made it and won a contest at a church party with it. That's where my friend Julie tried it and loved it. Here it is Julie Enjoy!!!!!

I also have a question to my bloggy friends and some statements.

Papa has always liked to pop by the house with guests unannounced. You know, to give them a tour of our house. (What an idiot) Our house is an ordinary house. He has been doing this for 30 years and I have been killing him over it for 30 years.

One day he brought over a co worker. I had a green facial mask on and the house was a mess.

There have been many other incident reports I could give you but, I know you are all already bored. So I will move on.

He came home yesterday and told me he invited a bunch of guys over for a B.B.Q. Monday night. Did he call me and say "Hey, how do you feel about this?" Are you up to having this on Monday night?" Is it Monday or Tuesday night that you shave your mustache and beard?" NOTHING, just the announcement.

I was p.o'd and let him know. I didn't have the energy to fight it out. We had a squabble. Plus my DIL's were here and (whatever, I was drunk on Cheesecake. We had just gone to lunch.)

Today however, on the way from Cabela's where Papa bought his new beverage cart for said party. I was in the mood.

I told him HE knows not to invite people over w/o discussing it w/ me first. I don't have to discuss when I invite people over most of the time because a. they are always our kids and 2. He doesn't have to do a thing to get the house ready for such events.

He said to me " So, you are telling me I have a house that I cannot invite anyone over to w/o your permission?" I said " Yes, that is what I am telling you!!!!" DUH. I have been telling him that for 30 years. These are not drop by friends or what have you. These are invited guests who I need them to know my house is spotless. My toilets are clean, my mustache hair is not in the sink. I have make up on etc. He doesn't get that the way a home looks (like it or not) is reflected on the woman of the house.

So my question is: Am I wrong women of America? Should I let Papa run amuck and invite everyone over willy nilly? I have to say I don't care what you say. I will still feel the same. I am just interested in your thoughts and Papa is still in the dog house.

This Fresh Strawberry Cake is the BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I made it yesterday for my son's birthday, it was his requested cake. I do whatever my children request. (insert hysterical laughter) Well anyway I try.

As most of you know my mom and dad live next door in our deluxe MIL apartment. My brothers were over there visiting, heard rumors of Strawberry Cake and well, fortunately for me, it is all gone now!

The recipe is on my side bar under Meatloaf. (actually you should look under cake)

POOBA, this goes great with ice cream. tee hee.

Cougar Town

The deer have not been back since our little Cougar urine incident. I could not have been happier until I saw this dude under my Apricot tree this morning.....

Not really! First of all, if I came across him there would have been even more urine problems. (in my pants) Second I wouldn't have stuck around to take his picture!! The deer really have not returned. So, I say if your having problems with em go get some Cougar Urine. I bought mine on line from the company pictured in my last post.

Some of you well, one of you have asked me why I have not been posting as much lately. The main reason is as I have mentioned before my gigantic yard. Plus...

we moved these four from our house to Las Vegas. Nick here will be attending D.O. school in Henderson. If you didn't catch four people in this picture then......

there you go. This gives you a better shot. I have officially named our new baby granddaughter Hash Brown. Honestly it is all her mother eats!

We also had been spending much time at our hang out Raging Waters. I want you to know that I took two million darling pics of all my grand kids totally raging and the camera was on video so none of them turned out. Well a couple turned out after I figured out the problem.

The problem was PAPA! He went to Mexico and for some reason had had the camera on video and I did not notice. ( insert a swear word of your choice, referring again to my last post) You know what? Swearing does not get you kicked out of Relief Society. So I'm going to stop. Instead you get asked to step in for the R.S. Pres. while she lounges around with the Shingles. What a slacker. I'm going to start smoking. Anyway that's another story.

After Papa came home from Mexico the kids (for some unknown reason) were so excited to see him. They couldn't get enough of him for a while.......

I had to throw this one of William in here. He came and got in bed with me one morning and fell right back to sleep. Papa was still in Mexico so there was plenty of room. If you don't remember Will lives in San Francisco (yes our house was very full of people) so he can get in bed with me any time. Even if he lived here. He is so cuddly and sweet.

This is actually a picture before all the wrestling began. Papa looks like he just got off a plane from Mexico. Do you think I have said Mexico enough times during this post?

Finally......

some actual pics from Mexico. Papa and two friends went down there to teach some coaches and young men how to play American football. They had a most wonderful time and the people down there could not have been nicer to them.

Papa's friend is an archaeologist. In fact he stayed behind for a dig. This picture is interesting because it represents an Elephant trunk.

Deer Friends

For years I have occasionally tried to find little ways to... let's just say detour Papa in the bedroom.

I mean a girl gets tired once in a while and needs a little break. (Of course if he really wanted a break I would be highly offended but, don't tell him that.)

I know daughters, TMI. Anyway none of my techniques worked.

I tried the whole hairy leg technique. Nope, turned him on.

Tried not showering. Turns out he likes dirty girls.

I even gained a little weight and, as you can see he can't keep his hands off me.

Then tonight something happened.... I found something that will truly keep your man away. I found this out by accident but, hey, what ever works.

Our deer friends have returned to our garden so, Papa and I were out back spraying Cougar Urine on these little swabs of material that you hang in your trees and bushes. Well, I was spraying Cougar urine while Papa watched.

Yes, this is a true story. This is the brand we are using. It is extremely aromatic. I was being very careful to pay attention to which way the wind was blowing during this task. However, I was not careful enough.

I sprayed...... there was a wind change....... Urine right in my face, mouth, hair , chest etc. I started screaming and spitting. Papa called me a doomass.

I yelled " Pfft (spit noise) Pfft Eeeww come smell me!"

Now, remember we live in the city in a very urban area. Our yard is not totally fenced in and our neighbors are very close. I am sure we put on a pretty good show.

Papa: " I can smell you from here, stay away from me!

So naturally I started chasing him. By the way our cat was out there frozen in fear by the smell emanating in the yard. The dog was completely intrigued and wanted to pee on me.

Papa was running for his life. I was chasing Papa and the dog was chasing me. The cat was still frozen in terror.

As we were running in circles Papa had the nerve to pick up a stake yes, a big long tomato stake and started coming at me with it. ( I truly believe he was going to put it through my heart! I've seen Dracula.)

Well, that was just rude so I yelled " I'm wearing this to bed tonight you dirty bastard!!!!!!!

(yes, I swear sometimes, I am trying to get kicked out of Relief Society)

Then it occurred to me, after 30 years I have found a way to keep Papa away!!! Ha ha ha. The only problem is I would have to smell it too, plus my tongue went numb. (Not kidding!) What really made me mad was the fact that I just had my hair colored today and that stuff better not mess with my color.

So, if your desperate for a good nights sleep and believe me you would have to be desperate, just spray on a little Harmon's Cougar pee. It will keep your man at bay. If this stuff doesn't keep those deer out of my garden I don't know what will.

I better go see if my cat has dared move yet.

Roasted Veggies With Pine Nuts

I know I have been a flake as of late when it comes to blogging. For the two of you who may have been missing me. I am truly sorry. Life seems to be getting out of hand. I hope this new recipe will kind of make up for it.

This has become one of my new favorite's in the veggie department.

Here goes:

1 large red pepper
3 t0 4 small to medium zucchini trimmed and cut on the diagonal into 1/4 inch slices
2 small to medium yellow squash trimmed and cut on the diagonal into 1/4 inch slices
1 to 2 medium onions cut into wedges
1 to 2 lbs asparagus, trimmed
4 to 5 cloves garlic, minced
about 8 teas. olive oil
1 to 2 teas. balsamic vinegar
salt and pepper to taste

Pine Nuts about 1 to 2 cups, no probably 1 cup. (Can you tell I am making this up as I go along. This is a Weight Watcher recipe that I have tweaked. The nuts are not in the original recipe. I love Weight Watcher's. I have lost 10 1/2 lbs. I haven't been good for the past week though so I better shape up. However, as usual I digress)

1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
2. Cut Bell pepper into strips then add zucchini, yellow squash, onion, asparagus, garlic, oil, vinegar and toss well to evenly coat. Of course you would want to have all of this stuff in a large bowl.
3. Put veggie mixture on a large cookie sheet and salt and pepper.
4. Bake for 20 minutes,
take out of oven and mix veggies up a bit with some tongs or something.Then throw in a few handfuls of pine nuts, it's up to you. Then bake for another 10 minutes or so until nuts are roasted.

This is a yummy Summer side dish if I do say so myself.
I hope Summer is treating you all very well.

California Dreaming .... Again

Tara, Chloe and me decided we needed a little vacation so, we went to visit these folks in San Francisco. Although all the children were full of some sort of pestilence and disease during our trip we still managed to have a really good time.
Chloe had had some sort of gombu right before we left. Henry the little guy standing in front of mom there had a stomach/intestinal bug flourishing within most the time we were there. (P.J. the taller one has it now. Thank goodness we are gone!) Anyway Henry would say "Nana, I have to poo." I would say (because it was obvious) "Henry did you poo in your pants?" His reply was
"We'll see when we get in there." I thought that was a pretty good answer for a four year old. He'll make a good politician some day.

This is what happens when Nana has jet lag. I know I am pathetic but, in my defense Tara was twice as bad. We had a slight skirmish with Southwest airline about Chloe's Special Tomato car seat that they said we could take on board for her to sit in. They insisted Tara buy Chloe a seat. Tara explained Chloe can't sit up but, alas she still had to purchase a seat and blah blah blah. Well the only seat that will keep Chloe strapped in a sitting position is her Special Tomato. We were immediately told the Special Tomato was NOT F.A.A. approved and needed to be checked. (Tara had already gone over this with at least five million people at Southwest to get permission and make sure everything would be o.k. and again blah blah blah.

Finally when the attendants realized Chloe had special needs they relented and left us alone. I might also add Chloe spent most of her time in her mothers lap anyway. She also thought taking off and landing was hysterical.

We were pooped when we got to Taylor's house. Chloe is getting so tall I think she is around 5' 6" now. (not really) but sometimes when you are carrying her that is what it feels like. Then we had the Special Tomato (Yes, that is the name of the chair) and the stroller and all our crap and well, we are delicate. Hence, the nap.

The next day we went to the Walt Disney Museum. I highly recommend it. These are the only pictures we were allowed to take in there. Tara tried to take others but was arrested.

The next day we went to the Oakland Zoo. Mr. I will neither confirm nor deny I have pooped my pants was our tour guide. He, and his older brother who knows virtually everything so we were in for an interesting time.

Henry was disappointed that the Turtle's were not wrestling like the last time he was there. Hmmm.

Also, for being our tour guide he spent most of his time lagging way behind which made it difficult for us to know where to go. We appointed William and mom as our new guides.

He's still back there goofing off.

These are rare frogs from the Amazon. I cropped their mother out of the picture because she would have been really mad at me if I had left her in it. (Just being honest. She was also a frog but, her breed had giant Cankles. Well, it looked like she had cankles, which is funny because honestly Taylor has some of the skinniest ankles you will ever find. Anyway she would have blamed the mother for leaving her in the pic and I just couldn't take it.)

The next morning we decided to go to the beach. It was freezing!!!!!!!!!! And, of course after 4 days of being the nagging grandma telling everyone they needed jackets I forgot mine on this freezing day at the beach. I sat wrapped up in a towel.

William loves the beach.

The ocean waves looked so massive that day. I wish I could have captured that a little bit better.

See, look how long Chloe is. Tara is 5'10" and look how long that little girl is. I am 5'4". We should have gotten a picture of me carrying Chloe up the beach wrapped in my towel.

What the Heck!

A week ago today my doctor, he actually is into torturing his patients, took me off of sugar. I should say he put me on a strict diet, which includes no sugar. Did I say I can't eat sugar? Among three thousand other things. BUT SUGAR? Why not liver? I also found out I am allergic to..........

OH, I can't even say it..........Hold on to your hats.................... chocolate AND caffeine. Among three thousand other things. I mean when I found out I was allergic to mushrooms I thought, whatever, corn... o.k. inconvenient. Cheese, well that sucks! Milk, what the H---! When chocolate popped up right after caffeine I said "Let's go out back so you can shoot me in the head!!!!!!!!!

After four weeks with no sugar and all the other crap I can't eat. I can reintroduce these things back into my diet very slowly and see what happens. (I did eat a Lemon Bar, I couldn't handle it. I gave up future blessings for immediate gratification. I know I am a loser! I didn't explode or anything though.) The Dr. thinks if I do this we may get down to my migraine issue. He also believes my body is full of candida (yeast) which can cause havoc. So hence the no sugar thing. If I can get rid of my migraines by doing this then so be it. Just quit making Lemon Bars Megan!! (my pregnant daughter that is craving lemon bars and who just happens to be living with us.)

I will let you know how this all turns out. I will say even though I am going nuts I have lost 4 lbs. in one week. That's right one week.

Some of you may recall that my mom is blind in one eye. Well, now she can't see out of the other to well either. After hearing her complain about her sight and I don't mean in a bad way. Just her being scared that she couldn't see. I told her I wanted her to quit driving.

I had a big sit down with her and dad and poured my heart out about the dangers of her driving right now and how irresponsible it was and blabbity blah blah. So the next day....... I see her zoom out of the driveway, free as a lark. Again I said "What the H---!!!!!!"

This was a Saturday. On Sunday after church we had another talk. On Monday..... ZOOM she is gone. I won't tell you what I said to that.

Let's move on to Thursday. She had a Dr. apt. to see what is wrong with her eye. I couldn't take her to the apt. So... she drove herself. HOLY COW!! Turns out she has a cataract which thankfully can be taken care of. After her Dr. apt. she walks into my front door with two pair of sunglasses on. The goofy kind the Dr. gives you after he dilates your eyes (and also tells you not to drive after said dilation) and her own stylish sunglasses on top of them. She says "Whew that was some drive home, with my eye already bad AND then being dilated I could barely make it home." I was mortified, mad, ready to kill etc. Long story short. Mother is off the streets. Brothers have been informed of her shenanigans and all is right with that part of the world. Mom is being good and asking for help when she needs rides. In two weeks she will be all fixed up.

Moving on...... Zeke, Lemon Bar is his mother. He is so stinking cute and so much fun to have around. He just has one problem he is a busy body, tornado, whirl wind, Tasmanian Devil, I think you get the drift. Lemon Bar was just like him when she was little. Nothing and I mean nothing can be left out. Every door better be shut and the doors leading outside must be locked at all times..... That's so I can't escape!

Then last but not least........

gardening time has begun! I love it but, it takes up a ton of time. So if I am not the best blogging buddy during the Summer you can probably bet I am trying to stay one step ahead of the weeds and Zeke and then of course there is my mom.

Smoky Black Bean Soup

Since the weather is changing every ten minutes where I live. I decided it wasn't too late to give you a good soup recipe I found from Weight Watchers.

This is really really easy to make, it tastes delicious, so what more could you want?

Here we go:

1 tsp. canola oil

1 large onion, chopped

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 14 1/2 oz. can reduced sodium chicken broth

2 cups fresh or frozen corn kernels

1 15 oz. can black beans, rinsed and drained

1 cup prepared mild salsa

1 teas. chipotle chile powder, or chile powder

1 teas. ground cumin

1 cup chopped cooked boneless pork loin

3 TBS. chopped fresh cilantro

1 teas. fresh lime juice

4 TBS. fat free sour cream

2 TBS. chopped scallions

1. Heat the oil in large nonstick saucepan set over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, cook, stirring occasionally, until golden, about 8 minutes.

2. Add enough water to the broth to equal 2 cups. (I just added more chicken broth. I thought that would taste better and it turned out great) Add the broth, corn, beans, salsa, chile powder, and cumin to the saucepan, bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, covered, until the flavors are blended, about 5 minutes. Stir in the pork, cilantro,and lime juice, simmer until heated through, about 3 minutes. Ladle the soup into bowls and top with the sour cream and scallions
